The opening ceremony was graced by the Secretary of the National Sports Council, Aminul Islam, NDC, who attended as the chief guest and formally declared the championship open. The programme was presided over by the President of the Bangladesh Wushu Federation Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman, AWC, AFWC, PSC, G.
In his address, the chief guest pledged full support towards the development of Wushu in Bangladesh, recognising its potential to elevate the nation’s sporting profile on the international stage.
Echoing this vision, the Federation’s President expressed optimism that with structured planning and dedicated effort, Bangladesh could soon reclaim its rightful place in Wushu’s competitive arena.
“Wushu has immense promise in Bangladesh,” he said. “We aim to bring home gold medals from prestigious global platforms, including the Asian Games.”
Dildar Hasan Dilu, the founding General Secretary of the Federation, shared that active efforts are underway to establish a modern, full-fledged Wushu training complex near Dhaka. He called upon the government for necessary support in realising this infrastructure milestone.
The championship, which commenced on 23 July, will continue until 27 July. Organised by the Bangladesh Wushu Federation, this five-day extravaganza features participation from 28 teams, including Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Police, Ansar, and BKSP. Approximately 418 athletes, coaches, and officials are competing across 27 gold-medal events, 19 in Sanda (combat) and eight in Taolu (forms).
The winners will be awarded a total of 108 medals, gold, silver, and bronze. Adding to the excitement, each gold medallist will receive an attractive electronic gift courtesy of award sponsor Pran Group. The tournament also features team trophies and commemorative T-shirts and certificates for all participants.
The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Sunday, 27 July, at 4:00 PM. The chief guest on this occasion will be the Honourable Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. Special guest Li Shaopeng, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, will also grace the ceremony.
Following the competition, the Federation will initiate a residential training camp at the Mirpur Sports Complex starting on the first of August. Priority will be given to gold and silver medallists, with an eye on grooming new talents for future international events.
