Google Alert – Bangladesh Army
A total of 60,000 army personnel will be deployed across the country to ensure law and order during the upcoming national elections, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, on Monday, July 28.
He made the statement during a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, where he briefed journalists on the outcomes of a high-level meeting between the Chief Adviser and key stakeholders, including law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Army to serve as striking force
When asked about the military’s role in election security, Shafiqul Alam confirmed: “The army has informed us that approximately 60,000 troops will be deployed in the field during the elections. They have already been on active duty since August 5, following the July Uprising, and have been granted magisterial powers.”
He emphasised that the armed forces will serve as a central striking force to maintain stability.
“We hope they will play a strong and decisive role in controlling the law and order situation during the polls,” he said.
Intels to operate without weakness
On the role of intelligence agencies, Shafiqul Alam said their operations must be robust and seamless.
“It was stressed in the meeting that our intelligence agencies should not have any gaps or weaknesses during the election period,” he said. “Close coordination among all agencies is essential, and that has been clearly communicated.”
The press conference was organised by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing to inform the public about the discussions held earlier in the day. The meeting included top officials from the military, police, RAB, DGFI, NSI, and other key agencies.
