Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, has stated that youth who are involved in sports will not deviate from the right path.


Therefore, he emphasised the importance of engaging the younger generation in sports activities, saying, “We want to give greater importance to sports.”


He made these remarks on Friday night during a meeting of the Bangladesh Golf Federation’s ad hoc committee at the Kurmitola Golf Club.


Recently, the executive committee of the Bangladesh Golf Federation was dissolved, and a new ad hoc committee has been formed.


General Waker-Uz-Zaman is the president of this newly formed committee. Brigadier General (Retd.) Md Saeed Siddiqi has been appointed as the General Secretary. Other key appointments include Lieutenant General Md Shafeenul Haque as Senior Vice President, Major General (Retd.) A K M Abdullahil Baki and Hafizur Rahman Khan as Vice Presidents, Colonel Sajjad Hossain as Joint Secretary, and Mahbubur Rahman as Treasurer.


The committee also includes Brigadier General (Retd.) Salehin Manohar, Brigadier General Mohammad Abdul Moin, Arshi Haider, Brigadier General Anisuzzaman Khan, Mezbah-ul-Haque, Professor Shahin Mahbuba Haque, Md Zahirul Islam, Squadron Leader (Retd.) Md Didarul Islam, Sareq Rahim, Lieutenant Commander (Retd.) Kamar Alam, Colonel (Retd.) Md Mahbubur Rahman, and Major (Retd.) Mahmudur Rahman Chowdhury as executive members.


The Army Chief welcomed the new ad hoc committee of the Bangladesh Golf Federation. He expressed hope that a new constitution and elections would make the federation a more responsible and participatory institution. He added that the federation will play an effective role in promoting golf and nurturing new talent.
