BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the national election will be held in February and the Chief Adviser is optimistic about ensuring it takes place on time.

Mirza Alamgir said, “Elections will be held in February. The Chief Adviser is also in favor of the election. But our enemies want to keep Bangladesh in a state of instability, which must be jointly resisted.”

The BNP Secretary General said this in an interview with the Bangla newspaper Thikana, published from New York, USA.

Speaking with journalist Khaled Mohiuddin, Mirza Fakhrul said the election will indeed take place in February. He added, “Of course the election will happen. But the distrust that has developed among the people must be removed and trust must be built — everyone must work for that. We must move forward accordingly.”

“We are seeing one thing now: even Dr. Yunus wants an election to take place. He has very firmly cooperated on this. Especially after our party chairperson’s meeting with him, you have become certain of that. From what I can see, the political parties know that the election will be held. The army and the administration know it will be held. But we must remember one thing: there is no simple, straightforward matter in Bangladesh. Things are always caught up in complications. For whatever reason, our enemies want to keep Bangladesh in a state of instability.”
