Mastermind of kidnapping gang arrested with firearms in Cox’s Bazar

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 15 has arrested the alleged mastermind of a kidnapping gang,

Zayed Hossain Faruq during a raid in West Morichya area under Haldia Palong Union of Ukhiya upazila, Cox’s Bazar. A large cache of weapons and RAB uniforms were recovered from his possession.

The information was disclosed during a press briefing held at the RAB-15 office on Monday afternoon by the unit’s Commanding Officer, Lt. Colonel Kamrul Islam.

According to the briefing, on the night of June 11, armed assailants posing as RAB personnel kidnapped Md. Hafiz Ullah from a Rohingya camp. The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of Tk 1.5 million (15 lakh taka) from the victim’s family.

Based on secret intelligence, RAB conducted an operation last night and arrested the main suspect, Md. Zayed Hossain Faruq, from West Morichya village.

Upon interrogation, RAB recovered four imitation RAB vests, one foreign-made pistol, two locally made guns, 21 rounds of mixed ammunition (local and foreign), a fake RAB ID, and various other equipment from his possession.

Lt. Colonel Kamrul Islam further stated that recently arrested dacoit Shah Alam, and dismissed army soldier Suman Molla, along with four others, are also believed to be involved in this kidnapping syndicate.
