Google Alert – Bangladesh Army
The Bangladesh Army has initiated a formal investigation into the allegations of political involvement against one of its officers, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate said on Friday.
Through law enforcement agencies, the army recently received a complaint about political affiliations against one of its members.
According to the ISPR statement, the unnamed officer was taken into custody on July 17, 2025, from his residence in the capital’s Uttara area.
The army has formed a court of inquiry to probe the matter, it said.
Describing the issue as one of “utmost seriousness,” the ISPR noted that a preliminary investigation has already found evidence supporting the allegations.
The statement said, “Based on the outcome of the full investigation, disciplinary action will be taken in line with military laws and regulations.”
The army is also coordinating with the police and other law enforcement agencies in this regard.
In addition, a separate investigation court has been initiated regarding the officer’s unauthorised absence from his place of duty, the ISPR said.
Legal action would be taken as per the court’s recommendations and the military law, it added.
Reaffirming its institutional stance, the ISPR emphasised that the Bangladesh Army is a non-political, disciplined, and professional institution.
“There is no scope for political involvement in this institution. Any member found involved in such actions will face consequences under the military law.”
The army remains firmly committed to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and its constitutional responsibilities, the statement concluded.
