Army will play most important role in polls: Salahuddin

Google Alert – Bangladesh Army

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday said that BNP is trying to create an environment where all political parties can sit together in the national interest.

Speaking with reporters at his Gulshan residence, he said, “BNP is not pro-southern or pro-northern, but pro-Bangladesh. BNP is a party of the people. Even though political parties have ideological differences, BNP wants to create a space where everyone can come together for the good of the country. We are discussing all possible ways to make this happen.”

Salahuddin said, “I am talking to all political parties and political forces in Bangladesh who represent the people. We believe BNP is a party of the masses, so we want to talk to all party leaders.”

He also said that the people will make history in the coming days, and that both the people and the army will play the most important role in the next parliamentary election.

Salahuddin said, “We know we cannot change the current police system overnight. But they will still have responsibilities in the election. Along with them, other forces like BGB and Ansar will also help.”

“The army will play the most important role. The plan is to deploy around one lakh army members, with permission from the government,” he added.

Salahuddin said, “The people want the most transparent election this time. They want a fair and joyful election where their voting rights are respected. In such an election, the role of law enforcement is secondary. The main thing will be the mindset of the candidates and the voters. We believe the people will make this happen.”

“If everyone agrees to hold a neutral, fair, free, and globally accepted election, then there should be no problem. Also, both domestic and international observers will monitor the election, and journalists will play an important role too,” Salahuddin added.
