Rangamati, July 29, 2025 : The United
People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) has vehemently denied the Directorate of
Inter-Services Public Relations’ (ISPR) claims of an armed encounter with UPDF
and the subsequent recovery of arms and ammunition. The UPDF labels these
claims as “completely fake and staged,” asserting they are part of a
conspiracy to falsely implicate the organization.
Aongay Marma, a spokesperson for the
UPDF, issued a press statement today, July 29, 2025, condemning these alleged
“fake encounters and arms recoveries.” Marma stated that these
incidents are being orchestrated to malign the UPDF and divert public attention
from the ongoing movement against escalating sexual violence in the Chittagong
Hill Tracts.
Marma unequivocally declared that no
exchange of fire has occurred between the UPDF and the Bangladesh Army, nor
have any arms been recovered in Sajek.
To clarify the events of last night,
the UPDF spokesperson provided the following account: “Last night around 2
AM, a contingent of the Bangladesh Army from the Baghaihat zone went to
Noren-para, approximately half a kilometer from Porjoton Road in Ward No. 9 of
Sajek Union No. 36, and positioned themselves there. At 5:15 AM, they entered
the nearby jungle and fired 20-30 rounds into the air, after which the ISPR
circulated the news of the armed encounter with the UPDF and the recovery of
arms.”
Aongay Marma condemned the
dissemination of false information regarding the UPDF and demanded an end to
these fake encounters and staged arms recoveries.
