An attempt is underway to establish a military camp
near the Bormachari Arjo Kalyan Bana Vihara in Laxmichari Upazila of
Khagrachari district. The army has marked a helipad on a plot that was prepared
for building a villager’s home. Several tents have also been set up in the
surrounding area.
According to reports, since Wednesday morning (October
22, 2025), soldiers have been clearing the villager’s cultivated tree garden to
prepare the area for the camp. A number of trees planted by locals have already
been cut down by the army.
On October 18, a 20-member military team led by Major
Saifur Rahman Turjo from the Khiram Army Camp arrived in the Bormachari bazaar
area. Since then, they have pitched tents at the site. However, at night, they
are staying at the Fatikchari Union Parishad building.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that another
20-member military team from the Shuknachari sub-zone is stationed in
Hudukchari under the Bormachari Union.

Incidentally, the 18th Kathina Chibar Dana Ceremony is
taking place today at the Arya Kalyan Bana Vihara. Yesterday, soldiers went to
the monastery and asked the monks whether they would be invited to the event.
Sources claim the army implied that if they were not
invited, they “might cause trouble.” This has raised concerns among locals
about whether the event will be able to proceed peacefully.
Residents have made it clear that they do not want a
new military camp in the area. They pointed out that the Khiram Army Camp and
Shuknachari Sub-zone are already located nearby, making another camp
unnecessary. Furthermore, the Bormachari area is currently completely peaceful,
with no signs of unrest or instability.
Locals have firmly stated that they will not accept
the establishment of a camp there if done unjustly.
