Conspiracies and propaganda against JSS by anti-Accord UPDF

Hill Voice, 2 August 2025, Special Correspondent: In recent times, the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), an anti-CHT Accord (Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord) organization, has intensified its conspiracies and propaganda by making false and baseless allegations against the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS). In particular, false, fabricated and baseless allegations have been filed against JSS leaders and workers using the name of various Indian NGOs, individuals and fake organizations before the Home Minister of India, the Chief Minister of Tripura and various administrative authorities. This is creating a wrong impression in the public mind about the Chakma community of Tripura state and a kind of division is being created within the Chakma community in Tripura.

The latest incident among these conspiracies and propaganda of the Prasit Bikash Khisa-led UPDF was the protest march organized by 40/45 Chakmas under the leadership of Porandhan Chakma and Kartik Chakma against JSS on 30 July 2025 in Notun Bazar of Amarpur subdivision of Gomati district of Tripura state, making false and fabricated allegations against JSS and submitting a memorandum to the Amarpur sub-divisional magistrate.

In the said memorandum, allegations were made against JSS members of spoiling the lives of the youths in the North East through drug trafficking, using India as its shelter after committing murders in Bangladesh, and also carrying out anti-India activities from Bangladesh through formation of the Tripura United National Front (TUNF) and sheltering it in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh, etc., which have been found to be completely false, imaginary and baseless.

For example, on June 19, 2025, a fabricated and baseless propaganda was spread that JSS was involved in the trafficking of drugs worth 10 crores (arrest of two Chakma youths) seized by Assam Rifles in Lunglei district of Mizoram. However, the two arrested Chakma youths are local residents of Mizoram. They were in no way associated with JSS. They did not even give any statement saying that they were associates of JSS. In this way, the memorandum falsely implicated JSS in the four more incidents of seizing of drugs in Tripura. In this way, UPDF (Prasit faction) is conspiring and spreading propaganda against JSS using the names of various NGOs, individuals and fake organizations in India and is publishing news in various newspapers and news portals in India in exchange for huge sums of money.

It is learnt from reliable sources that UPDF (Prasit) paid Rs 25 lakh to Porandhan Chakma and Kartik Chakma for organizing the demonstration held at Notunbazar on July 30. The participants were paid Rs 1,500 each for participating in this procession. In this way, UPDF (Prasit) is conspiring and spreading propaganda against JSS by using opportunists under false pretenses.

Only 40/45 Chakmas from Lebachara village of Notun Bazar area participated in the said procession. No Gabujya Jadha (Youth Organization), Chhatra Jadha (Student Organization) or prominent elders of Chakma society participated in the event. Rather, adverse reactions have been expressed against this procession by Gabujya Jadha, Chhatra Jadha or prominent elders of the society. The conflict between UPDF and JSS is a matter of CHT. This conflict should not have been dragged to Tripura. They have reacted by saying that in this way UPDF is dividing the Chakma society of Tripura in exchange for money.

It is worth mentioning that UPDF (Prasit) is currently politically cornered in the CHT. The Prasit group of UPDF is carrying out conspiratorial propaganda by making false and baseless allegations against JSS in Tripura and Mizoram due to its inability to cope with the JSS in the CHT. As part of this, UPDF distributed posters and leaflets in few places in Tripura in June using the name ‘Tripura Sachatan Janajati’.

It is also worth mentioning that on 12 July 2025, at Jatanbari in Gomati district and on 19 July 2025, at Machmara in Unakoti district, Gabujya Jadha (youth organization) organized two separate meetings with Chagala Karbari (Area heads) and dignitaries. Although no direct discussion against JSS took place in these meetings, however, UPDF spread propaganda from fake Facebook accounts that there was discussion against JSS. Hence, the widely circulated ‘Jumma Times’ in Tripura has also expressed strong reactions against such propaganda of UPDF.

It is particularly sensational that whenever such a conspiratorial incident is committed by UPDF, Suhas Chakma, who lives in Delhi, immediately publicizes it on his Facebook wall. He gives live interviews on Facebook supporting to those incidents. Therefore, it appears that Suhas Chakma is directly involved in the UPDF’s conspiracies and propaganda against JSS. It is alleged that Suhas Chakma is leading the UPDF’s anti-JSS propaganda and filing false, fabricated and fictitious complaints against JSS with various authorities in India. Many Chakma leaders of Tripura have mentioned that he has vested interests involved in the incident. It is also learnt that some opportunistic individuals from Tripura are also involved with Suhas Chakma.

Many Chakma leaders of Tripura, who did not want to be named, mentioned that Suhas Chakma and some opportunistic groups, by joining the conspiracies and propaganda of the UPDF against the JSS, are portraying the Chakma community of Tripura as Bangladeshis and dividing the Chakma people. On the other hand, Suhas Chakma and vested groups are tarnishing India’s image and national security by conspiring and spreading propaganda against the JSS leaders and activists. Therefore, many Chakma elders expressed the opinion that the Indian government and the Chakma community of Tripura should be alert and think deeply about this conspiracies and propaganda of the UPDF and Suhas Chakma gang.
