Bangladesh Army personnel allegedly physically abused
all members of a household — including women and children — during a raid on a
home in Birendra Karbari Para, Ward No. 3 of Matiranga Sadar Union, in
Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari district.

According to reports, in the early hours of today
(Monday, October 20) at around 2:00 AM, a 20-member group of soldiers from the
Bengmara Army Camp under Matiranga Zone conducted a raid in Birendra Karbari
Para. The soldiers first fired several blank shots to instill fear.

They then kicked down the door of local resident
Kalaichan Tripura’s house, forcibly entered, woke up the sleeping family
members, and forced them outside, where they were made to wait.

Following this, the soldiers searched the house and
ransacked all belongings.

The victim’s family reported that Kalaichan Tripura,
the house owner, his wife, and their two children (one a high school student,
the other in primary school) were physically abused. Kalaichan Tripura was
reportedly subjected to the most severe abuse, resulting in bleeding from his
nose.

The soldiers stayed at the location for about an hour
and returned to their camp around 3:00 AM.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that a 60-member army
team has been stationed since noon yesterday (October 19) at the Borotoli
Government Primary School in Ward No. 8 of Hapchari Union in Guimara upazila.
Just two days earlier, around 100 army personnel were also deployed in that
area.

Due to the army presence, there is widespread fear
among residents of Borotoli and surrounding villages.

It is noteworthy that in recent times, under the
pretext of searching for UPDF members, army operations and patrols have
increased in Matiranga, Guimara, and Ramgarh upazilas. This has disrupted the
normal lives of civilians.

Daily military operations are creating fear, anxiety,
and growing resentment among the local population.
