Joint forces arrest 390 in week-long nationwide drive

The joint forces, led by the Bangladesh Army, arrested a total of 390 suspects involved in various crimes during a week-long drive across different parts of the country from May 22 to May 28.

The arrestees include accused murderers, top-listed terrorists, smugglers, members of juvenile gangs, snatchers, extortionists, and drug peddlers, according to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.

During the drive, the joint forces also recovered 21 illegal firearms, 99 rounds of ammunition, 16 crude-bombs, various illegal drugs, locally made weapons, motorbikes, stolen mobile phones, walkie-talkies, passports, counterfeit currency, and cash, the release added.

The arrestees were handed over to the respective police stations for investigation and further legal procedures.

According to the ISPR release, the Bangladesh Army is conducting regular patrols and security operations in various regions of the country to ensure public safety.

In addition, the joint forces are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance and providing security at temporary cattle markets nationwide ahead of the upcoming Holy Eid-ul-Azha.

A special army patrol team is also working to ensure smooth traffic movement and prevent black marketing of tickets to facilitate hassle-free travel, the release said, adding, “The patrol continues to help maintain overall law and order.”

The army has urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest army camp, the ISPR added.
