Google Alert – Bangladesh Army
The order, signed by District Commissioner and District Magistrate ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandaker, came into effect at 2 PM on Saturday and will remain in force until further notice.
The district administration has prohibited all rallies, processions, meetings, and public gatherings, warning of stern action against violators. Additional police, army personnel, and seven platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order.
Earlier in the day, under the banner of ‘Jumma Chhatra Janata’, demonstrators enforced a dawn-to-dusk blockade demanding justice for the victim. Protesters set tires ablaze, blocked highways with felled trees, and vandalized vehicles. In Alutila Rehabilitation area, a hearse traveling from Chattogram was attacked, and its driver was beaten.
Around 1 PM, clashes erupted between hill residents and Bengali groups near Khagrachhari Government College and the Upazila Parishad area, leaving several injured. Police intervened to restore peace, but tension continues to grip the district.
Tourism was also affected as hundreds of visitors were stranded in Sajek due to the blockade. They were later escorted to Khagrachhari town under army and police protection, with arrangements underway to send them to their destinations. The unrest stems from the gang rape of an eighth-grade schoolgirl who went missing on September 23 while returning from private tuition. She was later found unconscious in a field and is now receiving treatment at Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital.
As authorities remain on high alert, Khagrachhari continues to face heightened tension, with communities demanding justice and accountability.
