Traffic movement on the Baghaichhari-Dighinala road in Rangamati has been temporarily suspended following a landslide caused by continuous heavy rainfall.
The incident occurred on Sunday (August 3) morning when a portion of a hill collapsed onto the road, blocking all types of vehicles from passing through the affected section.
Makshudur Rahman, Executive Engineer of the Khagrachhari Roads and Highways Department, confirmed that a landslide had blocked part of the Khagrachhari-Baghaichhari road.
“Work is underway to remove the debris. Other roads in the district remain unaffected,” he said.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shireen Akhter said several agencies, including the army, were working together to clear the road.
“We expect the road to be cleared and traffic to resume within an hour,” she added.
Meanwhile, Subhuti Chakma, a balloon maker at the second-class weather observatory in Dighinala, reported that 53 millimetres of rainfall had been recorded as of 10:00am.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the region remains at risk of further landslides due to continued rainfall.
