Twenty-one biranganas of Sirajganj, who survived after being dishonoured by the Pakistani military junta and their collaborators in 1971, were glad to see that the trial of some of those responsible for slaughtering, rape and looting has finally begun, reports BSS.
Now they want to see the execution of the verdict of trial before their death, some of the biranganas (rape victims) told the news agency while describing the horrific memories of their life.
Most of the 21 rape victims were in the age group of 14 to 25 during the war of liberation.
During nine-month War of liberation the Pakistani soldiers along with their collaborators- Rajakars, Al Badatss and Al-Shams stormed into their house and dragged them away.
They were subjected to sexual abuse and extreme physical torture at the army camps and survived to tell their stories.
“I was repeatedly raped and tortured by four Pak army personnel who forcibly dragged me away while I was going to the field to feed my brother,” said Joygun of Tetulia village who was 16-year-old at that time.
Like many others biranganas of Sirajgonj including Mahela Begum of Mochimpur village, Aeymona Begum of Shaberghat, Achiya Begum and Hazera Begum of Kalia, Korimon Begum of Tetulia, Hasina Bewa of Chuniahat, Rahela Begum of Sayadhangara village were officially honoured by Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He called them as ‘mother’ at a meeting at Sirajganj Government College premises in 1973.s
