The Inter Services Public Relations Department (ISPR) announced on Friday that an investigation court has been established to look into allegations of political involvement by an army officer.

According to the ISPR statement, legal authorities recently received a complaint alleging political affiliation by a serving officer of the Bangladesh Army. Upon receiving the allegation, the Bangladesh Army treated the matter with utmost seriousness. Consequently, on July 17, the officer was detained from his residence at Uttara in Dhaka and placed under military custody.

ISPR confirmed that an investigation court has been convened to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry. Preliminary findings have indicated that the allegations hold merit. Once the investigation is complete, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the officer under existing army regulations, based on the evidence gathered. Coordination is ongoing with Bangladesh Police and other law enforcement agencies as necessary.

Additionally, ISPR noted that a separate investigation court has been formed to examine the officer’s recent absenteeism from his post. Following the court’s recommendations and determination of responsibility under military law, further lawful measures will be taken.

The statement emphasized that the Bangladesh Army is strictly non-political, disciplined and professional, with no tolerance for political activities among its ranks.

It reaffirmed that any soldier found to be involved in political activities will face strict action under military law. The Bangladesh Army remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline and adherence to constitutional duty among all its personnel.
