Operation in Rajshahi uncovers weapons and explosives-making equipment

A joint operation by security forces at a house in Rajshahi city recovered several weapons and explosives-making equipment.

The operation began on Saturday morning. During the raid, three people were arrested among them a young man named Montasebul Alam Onindo was arrested.

He is an English teacher and owner of the “Doctor English” coaching centre. Additionally, two others, Md Robin and Md Faisal, were also detained as suspects.

Onindo had previously been arrested as a suspect in the murder case of English Department teacher Rezaul Karim at Rajshahi University, though he was later cleared of that case.

Onindo is accused of involvement in militancy, although no official statement has yet been issued by the joint forces regarding this matter.

On Saturday afternoon, a military press release stated that the raid recovered three firearms and ammunition, military-grade binoculars and sniper scope, six locally-made weapons, seven foreign sharp daggers, five advanced walkie-talkie sets, one military-grade GPS device, one taser gun, various local and foreign cartridges, numerous unused SIM cards, explosives-making equipment, six computer sets, 7,445 taka, various local and foreign alcohol bottles, and eleven nitrogen cartridges.

Since the items were found in usable condition, the Bomb Disposal Unit later deactivated them.

The press release also stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested Montasebul Alam Onindo is the nephew of former Rajshahi Mayor and Awami League leader Khairuzzaman Liton.

Relevant intelligence agencies have already begun investigations, and the operation is ongoing.
