In Nakapa of Patachhara Union in Ramgarh upazila of
Khagrachari, the military-backed vigilantes have once again carried out an
armed rampage today (Friday, September 5, 2025), according to reports. Earlier,
on September 1, the same group had abducted Basana Mohan Chakma at gunpoint
from Nakapa Bazaar.

According to sources, around 10:00 AM today, a group
of six armed vigilantes arrived in the Nakapa High School area on three
motorcycles. They ordered a halt to an ongoing construction project there,
threatening the workers with weapons and issuing dire warnings. The terrorists
verbally abused the workers with obscene language and declared, “No
development work will be allowed here without our permission.”

When the workers protested, the terrorists tried to
assault them and even fired shots to create panic. This spread fear among local
residents. Teachers, students, and the community around the school began to
feel extremely unsafe.

It has been confirmed that the same terrorists who
kidnapped Basana Mohan Chakma on September 1 were behind today’s incident as
well.

Locals allege that the vigilantes are deliberately
trying to destabilize the hill region. With military backing, they are engaged
in extortion, kidnapping, and other terrorist activities by using the threat of
arms. Both indigenous hill people and Bengali settlers have grown fed up with
their violent actions.

Angry residents are demanding the immediate
disbandment of this newly-emerged military-backed masked group and an end to
their terrorist activities.

Additionally, on the morning of September 4 at around
11:00 AM, in Salda Para of Ward 7 under Patachhara Union No. 2, a group of
vigilantes arrived on two motorcycles and threatened a bamboo trader named
Devendra Tripura. The terrorists warned local businesspeople that if they
wanted to continue doing business, they would have to pay extortion money.

Devendra has expressed that he is living in fear and
worries that he could be abducted at any moment if he visits Guimara Bazaar.

Many believe the growing anger and dissatisfaction
against the vigilantes could erupt into a mass uprising at any time.

Notably, on September 1, after attending a public
gathering in the Joutha Khamar area of Ramgarh, a group of six armed vigilantes
led by Md. Masud Hossain Bappy and Sulen Chakma abducted a man named Basana
Mohan Chakma from Nakapa Bazaar while he was returning by a jeep (along with
other participants). Other identified members involved in the abduction include
Manju Islam and Sagar Barua.
