Rangamati celebrated World Tourism Day on Saturday with colorful festivities that featured a marathon run, rally and an award ceremony recognizing local contributions to tourism.
Organized by Rangamati Hill District Council, the day’s events began with a marathon from Tourism Complex yesterday morning.
Later, a colourful rally started from Gymnasium and concluded at District Council premises, drawing attention from both locals and tourists.
An official discussion was held at Annex Building, where Acting Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council, Deb Prasad Chakma, attended as the chief guest. Presided over by Council Member Md. Habib Azmer, the event was also attended by outgoing Rangamati Sadar Army Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md Junaid Uddin Shah Chowdhury, newly appointed Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md. Ekramul Rahat and Tourist Police Superintendent of Rangamati Region, Khairul Amin, among others.
The keynote speech was presented by journalist Yasin Rana Sohel, recipient of this year’s Tourism Media Fellowship.
Other notable speakers included veteran educator Nirupa Dewan, Rangamati Press Club President Anwar Al Haque and Hill District Council members Naipru Marma and Baishali Chakma. The event began with a welcome speech from Aalok Bikash Chakma, Manager of Rangamati Tourism Corporation.
The day’s celebrations concluded with awarding of certificates and prizes to participants of a month-long tour guide training program and winners of marathon competition, marking a successful and engaging celebration of World Tourism Day in the hill district.
